Mission
The NCAA and the Division I-A Athletic Directors Association to help prepare student-athletes for the challenges of life beyond the playing field developed the CHAMPS/Life Skills program. Through workshops, information and interactive seminars, service projects and social events, the program will enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience within the university setting, as well as bring WCU student-athletes information that will prepare them for life after college.

The CHAMPS/Life Skills program is designed to reach each student-athlete based on his or her individual needs. The CHAMPS program focuses on the individual as a whole: academically, athletically, and personally, in the five different commitment areas. It also focuses on the changing needs and skills needed in the years during and after college.

Why have CHAMPS?
A primary responsibility for Western Carolina University is to develop our student-athletes as people and productive citizens. The CHAMPS/Life Skills Program provides the framework to accomplish this goal.

Western Carolina University has established a Life Skills committee consisting of members from different constituents across the campus community to assist with programming.
